The school bus driver involved in a collision that allegedly left Virginia Roberts Giuffre with life-threatening injuries has spoken out about the accident.
Giuffre, 41, who was allegedly sex-trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was a teenager, made headlines on Tuesday when she shared a photo from a hospital bed of her bruised face to Instagram, in which she wrote she was “ready to go.”
In a statement later released on behalf of Giuffre, a spokesperson said the Perth-based mother-of-three thought she was sharing the post on a private Facebook account.
Guiffre said she had “four days to live” after a bus driver, who she alleged was traveling at a speed of 68 mph, plowed into a vehicle she was a passenger in.
West Australian police confirmed to news.com.au that they had one recent record of a “minor” bus and car collision with “no reported injuries” in the state, which occurred in Neergabby, 12 miles north of Perth, on March 24 just after 3 p.m.
“The collision was reported by the bus driver the following day. The car sustained approximately $2000 worth of damage,” a police spokesperson said.
“There were no reported injuries as a result of the crash.”
The bus driver in question, Ross Munns, disputed Giuffre’s account of the incident, saying she had “blown (it) out of proportion.”
Munns, a 16-year-old school bus driver, told The Daily Mail that the crash happened after he decided to safely overtake—at a speed of under 46 mph—a slow-moving white Toyota Highlander driven by a 71-year-old woman.
Munns, who had 29 children on board at the time, said he began to overtake the car only for it to suddenly turn right in front of him.
Though he beeped his horn, Munns said he was unable to avoid clipping the car and damaging its tail-light in what he, like police, described a “minor collision.”
He and the driver – who told him she was not hurt – immediately pulled over and exchanged details before both drove away.
Though Munns said he under no obligation to, he reported the crash to police because the circumstances felt “a little bit suss.”
When he called the car’s driver to let her know as a courtesy, she later rang him back to say there had been a passenger in the car who had suffered “a black eye.”
Munns said he did not realize there had been a passenger in the car and was shocked to see Giuffre’s claims on Instagram.
“It’s just all blown out of proportion and I know what happened. I didn’t even see her in the car,” he said.
“The driver basically pulled out in front of me. I made sure she was alright, and I went and did a police report. She was elderly and I asked if she was OK, and she said, ‘Yes I’m OK.’
“I asked if she lived (at the property the car had turned into) and she said, ‘No, I’m a carer,’ and I told her she needs to put her indicator on when you have to turn.
“That’s all the conversation was, and she asked how the kids (on the bus) were and I said, ‘fine.’ It wasn’t a major crash.”
News.com.au has contacted Munns for further comment.
In her original post, Giuffre said she had been transferred to a specialist hospital in urology, writing, “I’ve gone into kidney renal failure, they’ve given me four days to live.”
“I’m ready to go, just want to see my babies,” she added.
According to 9News Perth, Giuffre admitted herself to Joondalup Hospital, in the capital city’s northern suburbs, with a pre-existing injury immediately after the collision.
While there, it’s understood doctors initiated tests that identified issues with her kidneys.
Giuffre was discharged the following day.
The following week, she was brought to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, also in Perth, by ambulance and was seeking treatment for pain. It’s understood she has since been discharged.
7News also reported Giuffre’s heavy bruising was the result of a fall.
