Authorities responded to a report of a small explosion at the courthouse in Santa Maria, California, on Wednesday.
“Santa Maria courthouse: report of an explosion. Please avoid the area. Scene has not been deemed safe. More info to follow,” the Santa Barbara county sheriff’s office said in a post on X.
It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries.
Noozhawk, a local online news outlet in Santa Barbara county, reported that a suspect had thrown a bag in an arraignment courtroom, and that the bag had exploded. The suspect was in custody, the outlet said.
