It was a classic New York City proposal - even down to the very last detail.
A hilarious new video posted to TikTok this week by user @papermiishe showed a dreamy Manhattan engagement happening in front of a Christmas tree, but what should have been a nice moment was momentarily interrupted by a rat scurrying past.
The proposal looked to be taking place under the huge, gorgeously-lit Christmas tree at 1221 Avenue of the Americas.
Viewers can see the sweet couple posing for a photo under the tree, but as the man fishes into his pocket to grab the ring, a large rat runs out of the bottom left side of the tree.
In true New York fashion, it then starts running in circles near the couple, before appearing to totally disappear into the night.
After the rat was gone, the man finally got down on one knee and romantically presented his wife-to-be with a ring - without any interference from the New York City rodent.
However, not all the humor from the special moment was lost.
In the comments section of the video, many TikTok users seemed tickled by the incident, with some even joking that the rat was a 'paid actor.'

'The rat like omg it's happening it's happening,' someone typed.
Another joked, 'Concrete jungles where dreams are made of.'
'Lmao the rat wanting to get in the picture,' one user commented.
Someone else seconded, 'THE RAT IS PART OF THE NYC EXPERIENCE.'
Others, however, praised the husband-to-be for his bravery through it all, as many said that they would have abandoned the ring upon seeing the rat.
'Shoutout to him for continuing on, I woulda took that rat as a sign,' a TikTok user admitted.
Another person observed, 'You handled that gracefully. I would have climbed the tree.'
'If that was me the rat would have ruin the whole proposal because I would have ran my a** down the block,' one more chimed in.
Once the rat left, the man was able to propose peacefully to the woman, with no rodents in sight

However, a rat running by a proposal isn't the worst thing that could have gone wrong.
In 2023, a total 'Karen' ruined a beachside proposal with some crazy antics.
Zenicca Llanza, 24, from the Philippines, shared a video of her boyfriend getting down on one knee at the beach.
While her husband-to-be had arranged everything for the picture perfect moment, including a gorgeous cake that read, 'Will you marry me?', another beachgoer decided to interfere and rearrange the set up, before interrupting the moment.
While Zenicca was listening to his speech, the unnamed woman comes into the shot.
She then moves the sign before walking over to the couple to get a look at the ring - before Zenicca even got a chance to wear it.
