A cat used to smuggle drugs into a Russian prison colony was intercepted by guards before it could reach the inmates. The animal was wearing two makeshift collars containing banned substances, Russian authorities said, as quoted by Euronews.
A cat used to smuggle drugs into prison colony No. 17 in the city of Nizhny Novgorod was intercepted by prison officers before it could reach the premises, Russian authorities said.
According to Russia’s Federal Service for the Execution of Penal Obligations (FSIN), the animal was wearing two makeshift textile collars, inside which were hidden banned substances intended for prisoners.
Guards spotted the cat before it entered the prison colony and managed to capture it
After the collars were removed, a handler was called to the scene along with a drug-detection dog. The dog confirmed the presence of drugs in the improvised devices attached to the animal, and the substances were confiscated.
Representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service said that after checks, the cat was released, as it was not injured during the intervention.
Authorities did not provide information about the people who organized the attempt to smuggle drugs into the prison, nor about the type or quantity of drugs found. The incident is part of a series of unusual methods used by criminals to smuggle prohibited items into Russian prisons.
