[Catholic Caucus] Is there a link between Vatican mascot Luce and Lucifer?

The idea that the Vatican’s Jubilee mascots’ names may allude to 'Lucifer' has been ridiculed—but this is based on a lack of understanding of Lucifer’s role in modern Western philosophy.
The reaction to the Vatican’s unveiling of “Luce and Friends,” the Vatican’s anime-inspired for the Holy Year 2025, has been heated.
On the one hand, critics of the mascots have argued that they were…
- Motivated by triviality and a lack of gravitas, both of which undermine the Church herself
- Condescending towards the young people at whom they were supposedly aimed, a form of tone-deaf pandering similar to that engaged in by politicians towards various minority groups
- Associating the Church with an anime fandom subculture which, even at its least troublesome, habitually glorifies the rejection of basic moral principles around modesty, occasions of sin, and scandal
- Tarred by their association with a designer who has openly promoted degenerate sexual vice and produced degenerate products, including with devil themes.
However, one particular observation has been met with scorn from critics and defenders alike—and that is concerning the names of the characters.
What are the names of these mascots all about?

On the contrary, if anything seems far-fetched, it is the idea that a public promoter of degenerate sexual vice could not possibly have inserted some of his values into designs for the Catholic Church—which is still seen as the great enemy of sexual degeneracy in the world.

“Luce” is just Italian for “light” (“lux” in Latin).

Is the creep who designed it Japanese or did he culturally appropriate anime?

““Luce” is just Italian for “light” (“lux” in Latin).”
And Lucifer is just Italian for “Light Bearer”.

Remind us what Lucifer means again?
Everyone is just dancing around the obvious. The answer is there even if someone doesn't want to see it. Of course this was done on purpose, of course it is a reference to Lucifer.

And Lucifer is just Italian for “Light Bearer”.
Latin actually. It was (is?) one of the two nicknames for the planet Venus - Lucifer and Noctifer. Just like we use morning star and evening star in English.
And there’s no Latin in the Old Testament...

Did you not read the article?
Lucifer is Latin for “light bearer”.

You’re in need of help, beyond just prayer (which is key) but real spiritual guidance.
All you post is stuff that puts the Catholic Church in a bad light. You disguise it as anti-Pope and such but it’s fundamentally anti-Catholic.
That’s not wholesome, that’s sad.

Yes, it was on purpose. I am Catholic, but I’ll be the first to admit that the church as been infiltrated by a lot of bad elements.
I guess it’s like the weeds being mixed with the wheat.

Yes, it’s lux plus fero, bring. Put together, it means bearer of light. But “fe” is not “fer.” That’s the problem with this theory. “Fe” just means “faith,” which is a good thing. Jesus is said to be the light, so nothing wrong with “luce” either. I am willing to entertain any number of paranoid theories, but the one in this article strikes me as bordering on the absurd. And I am no fan of Francis, either.

Your soul is in desperate need of healing. There are allot of resources, you just have to make the effort to seek help.
There are many, many people that are praying for you but you have to help yourself. Though prayer is very powerful, the decision to move forward is yours alone.
The bad deeds that were committed against you all those years ago were not your fault nor the fault of the church. Stop fighting and just start to live in peace.

Now you're just making stuff up.
Did you not listen to today's Gospel?
Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak ail that is evil against, untruly, for My sake: be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in Heaven.
Thank-you for giving something to be glad and rejoice for today, Savannah. Usually it's the rabid anti-Catholics who give me such joy.

Did you not listen to the gospel today? Reflect on what you directed to me in reference to my insistence for your health, mentally and spiritually.
I have spoken about healing, hope, and the longing for you to stop attacking the church that you claim to be a member of.
“...giving something to be glad and rejoice for today...give me such joy.” - THAT is what you need! Way to go, keep up it up and come back home, brother (or sister).
Be at Peace!!!

I had never even heard of you until until a kind soul alerted me that you had called me “ebbturd”.
Go back an play with your gay Teletubbies instead of bearing any false further false witness against me.
You may claim to be a Catholic, but you sure don’t act or sound like one.
