French outfit to continue Austrian success

Brest saw off Sturm Graz on their European debut two weeks ago and can now avoid defeat at the Austrian league leaders’ rivals Red Bull Salzburg.

The inconsistent French side were 2-1 winners against Sturm and can put last Friday’s 3-0 loss at Auxerre behind them by picking up at least a point at the Red Bull Arena.

Eric Roy’s Bretons, surprise third-placed finishers in Ligue 1 last term, have lost their three away fixtures this season but should have little to fear from Salzburg.

The Austrians may be seasoned European campaigners these days, but Pep Lijnders coaches an incredibly young group, whose inexperience was exposed on Matchday 1 when they played adequately at Sparta Prague yet lost 3-0.

Tip: Draw or Brest double chance, Salzburg vs Brest @ 21/20 with William Hill

Expect late goal flurry at Germans’ fortress

Stuttgart are playing catch-up after losing 3-1 at holders Real Madrid in their opener. Expect a significant response at home to Sparta Prague.

The German power scorers have played only two games this season at their Neckarstadion fortress, drawing 3-3 with Mainz and thumping Dortmund 5-1.

They have not lost a home game in 11 months and last failed to find the net on their own turf in March 2023.

Sebastian Hoeness’s attack-minded side can certainly turn on the scoring taps and if they do it early against their Czech visitors the goals could flow.

Sparta have netted at least twice in all of their previous 10 assignments, including a resounding 3-0 defeat of Salzburg 3-0 on Matchday 1, and have got a goal in the second half in eight of those.

Tip: Stuttgart vs Sparta Prague – both teams to score second half @ 7/4 with William Hill

Hakimi has his eyes on goal

Arsenal against PSG is one of the ties of the night between two clubs who are unbeaten this season.

Their only two meetings in the Champions League ended in draws back in 2016-17 and it would be no surprise if little separates them in north London tonight.

The Gunners were involved in one of only two 0-0 draws on Matchday 1, at Atalanta, while the French outfit could only edge newcomers Girona 1-0.

The Spaniards rode their luck, however, with the French giants racking up 26 shots, six of which came from right back Achraf Hakimi. The Moroccan is averaging 1.4 shots per game in Ligue 1 this season and could well test David Raya in the Gunners’ goal.

Tip: Achraf Hakimi at least one shot on target, Arsenal vs PSG @ 13/10 with William Hill

Yamal to breach Swiss visitors’ defences

Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal’s previous two goals for Barcelona have been in losing causes, 2-1 at Monaco in the Champions League and 4-2 at Osasuna in La Liga.

The 17-year-old can make it third time lucky by scoring for Barça against Young Boys in a match where it is hard to see anything other than a comprehensive home win.

The Swiss side were thumped 3-0 at home by Aston Villa last time out and this trip to the Estadi Olímpic Lluis Companys looks destined to end badly.

Tip: Lamine Yamal anytime scorer, Barcelona vs Young Boys @ 11/10 with William Hill

Rampant Celtic must fancy their chances

The Bhoys have won all nine of their matches this term and will reckon they can trouble last season’s Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund.

The German side have lost at least one half in each of their past two games – a 5-1 thrashing at Stuttgart and a comeback-from-behind 4-2 triumph over Bochum. Celtic can exploit their defensive frailties.

Tip: Celtic win either half, Borussia Dortmund vs Celtic @ 11/5 with William Hill
