Charlamagne tha God ripped the prospect of “old ass” President Biden doling out preemptive pardons to political opponents of incoming commander in chief Donald Trump on Thursday – arguing the measure would make them “look guilty.”
The popular talk show host weighed in on reports that the Democrat, 82, is considering whether he should issue pardons for officials and lawmakers that the Biden administration believes could be prosecuted by the Trump administration.
“I don’t think President Biden should do preemptive pardons either, makes people look guilty if you ask me,” Charlamagne said during “The Breakfast Show.”
“Biden should be pardoning all the non-violent drug offenders in federal prison, he should be pardoning everybody in federal prison for non-violent weed convictions, OK? He should be pardoning Marilyn Mosby,” he said in reference to the former Baltimore state’s attorney who was convicted in 2023 of perjury and making false statements on a loan application in separate trials.
“Those are the pardons he should be working on before he get his old ass up outta here.”
When co-host DJ Envy argued there are officials and politicians Trump will “be attacking” who “tried to get him locked up,” Charlamagne shot back, “But why would I be pardoning you if you don’t have any crimes connected to you?”
“Don’t that make you look guilty if I give a preemptive pardon?” he added.
“I just don’t understand why you would give somebody a preemptive pardon,” he said during a back and forth with his cohost.
“Like, it just feels like you saying, ‘Okay, I know this person is guilty of something, and Trump may go after them.’”
Biden pardoned 39 people for nonviolent crimes and commuted the sentences of almost 1,500 individuals who were transferred from lockup to home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday.
The outgoing president vowed to take “more steps” before his term is up on January 20, saying in a statement he took Wednesday’s action because the country was built on the “promise of possibility and second chances.”
The Democrat faced heat earlier this month when he granted a wide-ranging pardon to his son, Hunter, who was convicted of federal gun and tax charges earlier this year in separate trials.
