Chiefs Super Bowl winner returns to Kansas City after six seasons away

The Chiefs are re-signing Emmanuel Ogbah six years after the defensive end won a Super Bowl in Kansas City.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after spending the 2025 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Now, according to ESPN, the Nigerian defensive end is heading back to Kansas City on a one-year-deal. 

The Chiefs are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 campaign when they missed out on the playoffs for the first time 2014.

Head coach Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach have already made a number of significant moves this offseason, including re-signing Travis Kelce and acquiring Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker.

Ogbah played alongside Patrick Mahomes, Kelce and Co in the 2019 season, helping Reid's side reach the postseason. But he missed the Chiefs' playoff run to the Super Bowl after suffering a torn pectoral.

Between his stints in Kansas City and Jacksonville, Ogbah spent five seasons with the Miami Dolphins. The 32-year-old was a second-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2016, having played college football at Oklahoma State. 

Reid, meanwhile, has hinted NFL retirement is on the horizon after being confronted with worries about who might eventually replace Mahomes.

Reid, 68, signed a five-year, $100million extension as Chiefs head coach in April 2024. And while he enters the new season determined to lead the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl, one thing not on his mind is finding a new quarterback.

Mahomes, 30, is entering his tenth season in the NFL and when asked about what his future holds on Monday, Reid replied: 'I don't worry about it because he'll be here a lot longer than I am.'

The Chiefs made some quarterback moves over the offseason, drafting Garrett Nussmeier from LSU in the seventh round and trading for Justin Fields from the New York Jets.
