Professional golfer Ryan McCormick took drastic measures to quell his dramatic on-course meltdowns on Friday, opting to tape his own mouth to 'shut himself up'.

McCormick has dropped down from the PGA Tour to the Korn Ferry in recent months, and is currently playing at the Club Car Championship in Savannah, Georgia.

After admitting he has been struggling to control his temper out on the course, McCormick turned heads by putting tape over his own mouth for his entire round on Friday, in a bid to remind himself to not scream and shout.

'Been having not-so-fun times this year on the golf course,' he explained in a now-viral video with the Korn Ferry Tour. 'Pretty angry and mad. So I figured I've tried a lot of things, and I just figured I'd shut myself up. So I put tape over my mouth.'

'I was hoping maybe that it would help me. Can't say that it did or didn't. It certainly makes you breathe. I felt like Bane, like Batman, muzzle myself.

'I mean, I'm not like proud. I don't want to create an experience for my playing partners that's not fair. And, you know, it's not fair to me either or other people. Having a tough time, and that was my solution today.'

McCormick still failed to make the cut and has struggled for form on the Korn Ferry this year

His solution was not enough to help him make the cut, though, with the 33-year-old American finishing +1 for the tournament, a shot better than his Thursday round, but still four shots back from the cut line.

McCormick spent the entirety of 2024 on the PGA Tour but was eventually relegated to the Korn Ferry after ranking No. 161 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Friday's stunt did not go down particularly well with golf fans, who laid into him for the 'attention-seeking' move.

One user wrote on X: 'What a complete and utter joke! Imagine being an adult and doing something this childish for the whole world to see. No sponsor should want to touch the “basket case” that is @McCormick__Ryan.'

Another added: 'This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Anything for clicks Ryan I guess.'
