A viral horror game called Eyes Never Wake forces you to physically hide in real life as the monster is able to see you through your webcam.
Horror games have truly evolved over the years. We’ve seen games that utilize your microphone and have you holding your breath instead of screaming.
And if that’s not terrifying enough, or if you’re looking for something more chilling, then the upcoming Eyes Never Wake is definitely one to keep on your list.
Developed by Allan Hedlund, Eyes Never Wake puts you in a bone-chilling reality where you’ll have to deal with a monster that breaks the fourth wall. Your mission is simple: don’t let it catch a glimpse of your face in real life.
Eyes Never Wake creator reveals how the game works
Steam has this game listed as “coming soon”, but there’s already a trailer showcasing its mechanics. Between navigating seemingly endless creepy halls, you’ll have to hide from a terrifying AI-driven creature lurking around the place.
Much like any other horror game, it’s safe to say you’ll likely get jumpscared a lot. The only thing is… as the player, you’ll actually have to hide by physically ducking beneath your desk when you encounter the monster on your screen.
Don’t think about cheating your way through, either. In a post on X, the creator has clarified that you can’t just cover your webcam with your hand. Doing so will make your character unable to move, which is definitely not ideal when you have a nightmare-fuel entity nearby.
While the concept of this game is no doubt intriguing, it has also left some fans to point out some privacy issues due to the webcam usage.
The creator mentioned that if you’re a Vtuber or simply don’t want your face displayed, there’s an option to hide it. Rest assured, they also explained that the game simply uses OpenCV for Unity for face recognition, which “uses pre-trained models” for those worried about their privacy.
“Everything runs locally – nothing gets sent to any server or anything like that. And you can always turn the mechanic off at any time,” they added.
Not much is known about the game’s lore as of now, but one thing for sure is that it appears that you’ll be able to “clip out” into a mysterious “out-of-bounds area” that you can explore and that your main objective is to “uncover the truth behind this abandoned game and why ‘heaven’ is so deeply hidden.”
