BEIJING - China’s military on April 2 launched military exercises code-named “Strait Thunder-2025A” in the middle and southern areas of the Taiwan Strait, state news agency Xinhua reported citing a spokesperson for the Eastern Theatre Command.

The exercises, which have been named unlike those that took place on April 1, focus on subject identification and verification, warning and expulsion, and interception and detention, the report added.

Meanwhile, the United States said on April 1 that “China’s aggressive military activities and rhetoric toward Taiwan only serve to exacerbate tensions,” in a statement coinciding with China’s military announcing drills around the island would continue on April 2.

“In the face of China’s intimidation tactics and destabilising behaviour, the United States’ enduring commitment to our allies and partners, including Taiwan, continues,” the State Department’s statement added. REUTERS
