Chinese President Xi Jinping has met Singapore’s former prime minister Lee Hsien Loong, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The former Singapore leader, who met Xi in March last year in Beijing, is on his first visit to China since he stepped down as prime minister in May. His six-day trip, which finishes on Friday, also includes stops in Suzhou and Shanghai.
On Monday, Lee, who is now Singapore’s senior minister, met vice-premier He Lifeng in Suzhou and he is also expected to meet Wang Huning, the No. 4 in the Communist Party heirarchy, while in Beijing.
Singapore has maintained relatively warm ties with China, which is its largest trading partner, while maintaining a strong security partnership with the United States.
