The 37-strong team from the southwest province of Yunnan was equipped with detectors, earthquake early warning systems, a portable satellite and drones for disaster relief, according to state news agency Xinhua.
According to the latest information from the Myanmar government, at least 700 people have been killed and thousands after the 7.7-magnitude quake struck, the most powerful to hit the country in decades.
The death toll is expected to rise significantly and with communications badly disrupted in the isolated state, the true picture is still unknown.
China’s foreign ministry said that so far it had received no reports that any Chinese nationals were among the dead.
Local media reported that the leader of Myanmar’s ruling military junta, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, has issued a plea for international help, saying: “I would like to invite any country, any organisation or anyone in Myanmar to come and help. Thank you.”
He asked for massive relief efforts in the wake of the disaster and said he had “opened all ways for foreign aid”.
