One of the world's biggest Mexican food chains is celebrating the 2026 World Cup in a big way.
In honor of the final match on Sunday, June 19, Chipotle is giving away $1 million worth of free burritos - but fans will have to keep their eyes peeled if they want to claim one.
The Mexican fast-food chain unveiled a new promotion tied to Sunday's game, with 100,000 free entrees offers up for grabs during the second 'hydration break.'
Rather than just handing out free food vouchers, Chipotle is asking fans to solve a visual puzzle inspired by one of their most controversial menu hacks.
As play pauses for the second hydration break, the chain will post a short video on its Instagram account showing a lemonade-filled cup being shuffled among three identical Chipotle water cups.
Fans who successfully track the correct cup will receive a hidden text code at the end of the clip.
The first 100,000 people to text that code to 888-222 will receive a free entrée, worth roughly $1 million in total giveaways, to be redeemed through July 24.
The campaign not-so-subtly references a long-running gag among Chipotle customers about diners famously 'accidentally' filling complimentary water cups with lemonade instead of water.

Chipotle is known for its 'build your own' menu concept which allows customers to customize their meals
The company has embraced - if not encouraged - the sneaky trick in recent years through tongue-in-cheek social media posts - and is now turning it into the centerpiece of a World Cup promotion.
'The best brand ideas start with a fan truth,' Chipotle said in a statement.
'Our water cup has become one of the most recognizable symbols in Chipotle fan culture,' the statement adds, 'and when hydration breaks emerged as a new part of the matchday experience, we saw an opportunity to bring that fan lore to life on one of the biggest stages in sports.'
In honor of the upcoming promotion, Chipotle posted on X, 'putting on an award winning performance every time i ask for a water cup,' earning dozens of likes from customers.
This wouldn't be the first time Chipotle poked fun at customer habits.
In response to fans hoarding 'extra' napkins, the chain released a car napkin holder in 2023 for $30. It has since been removed from their merchandise offerings.
Free burritos aside, the fast food chain is constantly updating its menu, even adding limited-edition offerings. After months of pining, Chipotle announced the return of its Chipotle Honey Chicken in April.
The protein, originally introduced in 2025, is marinated with chipotle peppers and doused in honey, as opposed to the regular chicken which is marinated overnight in chipotle pepper adobo.

In March 2026, the chain introduced a new sauce made with cilantro, lime, Mexican spices, sour cream and roasted jalapeños. It still remains available at most restaurant locations in late April.
The brand's goal is to introduce a 'new level of freshness' to already existing options and address the 'growing obsession for sauce,' particularly in millennial and Gen Z diners.
Chipotle has over 4,000 locations across 49 states, making it one of the most recognizable fast casual Mexican chains.
The chain's CEO Scott Boatwright revealed that Chipotle added more than 300 new restaurants and made progress on its 'operating initiatives' just months after introducing the Honey Chicken in 2025.
