Disturbing video footage showed the moment a retired police officer shot and killed a neighbor over loud music on Christmas Day in Argentina.

Rafael Moreno, 74, can be seen approaching one of the attendees of a house party in Buenos Aires on Wednesday around 6am and pulling out a .38 caliber revolver before the victim, Sergio Díaz, 40, intervened.

Moreno began to step away when Díaz suddenly smacked him in the face and yelled at him.

'Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are to pull out a gun on me?' an angry Díaz shouted.

Moreno replied that he was 'a cop' before Díaz shoved him.

The retired federal officer then placed the gun to Díaz's stomach before stepping forward and firing one shot.

Díaz yelled in pain and bent over before he walked to the sidewalk and fell.

Moreno remained in the background as someone shouted for an ambulance and police to be called.

Díaz was rushed to an area hospital, where he died from the gunshot wound several hours later.

Moreno was arrested at the scene and was questioned by investigators later during the day.

Díaz's relative and owner of the home, Karina, told Argentine television news station TN that Moreno told them, 'lower the music because this will end bad.'

She said they kept their distance from Moreno, who reportedly did not get along with some of his neighbors.

'The least we thought was that he would react that way,' Karina said.

'He said two words and he fired, he (Díaz) didn't have time to do anything.'

Moreno's wife, Liliana, told TN that one of the men at the scene was carrying a gun.

'He told me, "I had to shoot because someone had a gun and was pointing it at me," Liliana said.

'He probably shot because he had no choice,' she added.

Liliana said that her husband never approached the group to turn down the music.

Instead, she claimed that Moreno only wanted to prevent Díaz and members of his party from breaking a nearby shop's gate.

'He crossed to get them out and stop them from breaking the fence in front because they were grabbing it to break it,' she said.

'The guys were trying to break it up, I didn't hear any music,' she added.

'He went and talked to them nicely. Then one of them came out with the gun and acted like he was crazy, but Rafael also had his gun.'

Moreno is facing an aggravated homicide charge with the use of a firearm.
