WWE star CM Punk has joined the upcoming Syfy horror series “Revival” in a recurring role, Variety has learned exclusively.
As previously reported, the show was picked up at Syfy back in May and is based on the Image Comics series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton. Production is currently underway in New Brunswick, Canada.
Punk, a diehard comic book fan whose real name is Phil Brooks, will appear alongside previously announced cast members Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen. Variety also previously reported that Steven Ogg will appear in a recurring role as well. Exact details on the character Punk will play are being kept under wraps.
The official description of the series states, “On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress (Scrofano) is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”
This is by no means the first acting role of Punk’s career. He has previously appeared on shows like the Starz pro wrestling drama “Heels” in the role of Ricky Rabies and the FX series “Mayans MC.” In film, he previously starred in the horror features “The Girl on the Third Floor” and “Jakob’s Wife.” He is also set to appear in the upcoming film “Night Patrol” opposite Jermaine Fowler, Justin Long, and Dermot Mulroney.
Punk is of course best known for his time in the world of pro wrestling, having been a breakout star in organizations like Ring of Honor, WWE, and AEW. He infamously walked away from WWE and wrestling in 2014, with his in-ring return in AEW in 2021 garnering international attention. He made his return to WWE in 2023, most recently engaging in a highly-praised feud with Drew McIntyre.
Punk is repped by Paradigm’s The Sports Group.
“Revival” was developed for television by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce. Both serve as executive producers and showrunners. Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Daniel March, Melanie Scrofano, Greg Hemmings, and Stephen Foster also executive produce. The series is produced by Blue Ice Pictures and Hemmings Films.
