Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi has called for international sanctions against Rwanda for its alleged support of the M23 rebel group, which has aggravated the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Tshisekedi claimed that the Rwandan-backed rebel forces are responsible for a crisis that has led to the displacement of over 7 million people. UN experts previously reported that 3,000 to 4,000 Rwandan troops are collaborating with M23 in the DRC, contributing to the destabilization of the Central African country. Tshisekedi also urged the UN to step up efforts to implement recommendations from the Global Coalition To Defeat ISIS, of which the DRC is a member, warning that terrorism is taking root in Africa.
