CV NEWS FEED // Congresswoman Nancy Mace, R-SC, filed a resolution in the House of Representatives that would protect women from having to share women’s restrooms with men who claim to be “transgender” females.
The two-page resolution was filed after Democrat Sarah (born Timothy) McBride, a man who claims to be a woman, was elected to the House of Representatives for Delaware’s first district. In January, when he is sworn in, McBride will become the first openly “transgender” member of the U.S. Congress.
Mace told Fox News Digital on Monday: “The sanctity of protecting women and standing up against the Left’s systematic erasure of biological women starts here in the nation’s Capitol.”
Mace’s resolution sparked outrage on X (formerly Twitter), including a rebuke from McBride himself.
“Every day Americans go to work with people who have life journeys different than their own and engage with them respectfully, I hope members of Congress can muster that same kindness,” wrote McBride.
McBride took a swipe at Mace’s resolution, calling it an “attempt by far-right extremists” who were “manufacturing culture wars.”
“This is a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing,” he wrote:
We should be focused on bringing down the cost of housing, health care, and child care, not manufacturing culture wars.
Delawareans sent me here to make the American dream more affordable and accessible and that’s what I’m focused on.
The resolution, which was presented to the House on Monday, would prohibit members of Congress and other capital employees from using single-sex restrooms that do not correlate with their true sex.
The text of the measure reads in part:
Prohibiting Members, officers, and employees of the House from using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex, and for other purposes. Whereas allowing biological males into single-sex facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms designed for women, jeopardizes the safety and dignity of Members, officers, and employees of the House who are female: Now, therefore, be it.
If passed, the resolution would also see that the Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives would have to enforce the rule protecting women’s restrooms.
On Tuesday, Mace published a series of posts on X reaffirming her position. In one video post, Mace countered McBride’s comments about the “far-right extremists” with her own about the “radical left.”
“The radical left is calling me an extremist for being a feminist fighting to protect the rights of women and girls,” Mace wrote. “If being a feminist makes me an extremist or a bigot or a monster, I am totally here for it. Because I am going to fight like hell for every woman and every little girl across this country to protect you and keep you safe.”
“The Left can’t keep up with its own contradictions,” wrote Mace. “Am I a feminist extremist for defending biological women, or a right-wing bigot? Do let me know when you figure it out.”
The substance of Mace’s resolution appears to have the support of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-LA.
On Tuesday, Johnson answered questions about the measure.
“For anybody who doesn’t know my well-established record on this issue,” he said, “let me be unequivocally clear: A man is a man and a woman is a woman, and a man cannot be a woman.”
“That said,” Johnson added:
I believe that’s what scripture teaches. What I just said. But I also believe that we treat everybody with dignity, and so we can do and believe all those things at the same time, and I wanted to make that clear for everyone because there are lots of questions. But that’s where I stand, that’s where I’ve stood my whole life, and those are facts.
