Conor McGregor has deleted a controversial social media post mocking paralysed boxer Prichard Colon following Jake Paul's victory over Mike Tyson in Texas.

The former UFC champion suggested Colon could be Paul's next opponent, sparking widespread outrage across social media platforms.

McGregor's night went from bad to worse as he also lost £800,000 after backing Tyson to win by knockout in a pre-fight bet.

The Irishman had posted "They are eyeing Prichard Colon for next opponent" on X, formerly Twitter, before swiftly removing the message following intense criticism from boxing fans and pundits alike.

American-Puerto Rican boxer Colon suffered life-altering injuries in a 2015 fight against Terrel Williams, where he was repeatedly struck in the back of the head.

He collapsed in his dressing room after the bout, suffering a brain haemorrhage that left him in a coma for 221 days.

"He's just cringe right now. That's disgusting," another commented.

The controversy comes amid criticism of Paul's tendency to select mismatched opponents, with UFC CEO Dana White mockingly suggesting: "If he beats Mike Tyson, he's going to fight Clint Eastwood next. Clint Eastwood's 93 years old."

Paul dominated the 58-year-old Tyson in their Netflix-streamed bout, securing a unanimous decision victory at the AT&T Stadium.

"This man is an icon. It's just an honor to be able to fight him."

Tyson, who wore knee strapping during the bout, landed just 18 punches in 16 minutes of boxing but refused to make excuses.

"Yeah, but I can't use that as an excuse, because if I did, I wouldn't be in here," he said.
