Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has voiced his support for Donald Trump's pick to be US ambassador to the Vatican.
The president-elect recently announced that Brian Burch would serve as the US representative after helping him win the election and 'demonstrating exceptional leadership'.
Trump said the father of nine 'loves his Church and the United States' and would 'make us all proud'. His appointment was backed by Butker, who has previously hit the headlines for his religious views.
'Very happy to hear that @BrianBurchCV has been selected to be the next Ambassador to the Vatican,' Butker wrote on social media.
'Brian has been a leading voice in the Catholic community here in America through his organization (CatholicVote) and now in his new role, he can take those gifts to Rome. Pray for him and his family as they embark on this new journey.'
Butker also included a picture of himself alongside Burch, seemingly at the Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium.

— Harrison Butker (@buttkicker7) December 20, 2024Earlier this year, Butker was slammed over a 'bigoted' and misogynistic' commencement speech at Benedictine College.
Butker delivered a 20-minute speech at the Catholic private liberal arts college in Kansas, where he said men should 'fight against the cultural emasculation' and suggested women are 'most excited' about getting married and having children.
Butker later doubled down on his comments and he attended the Chiefs' White House reception, despite criticizing Joe Biden over abortion.
The kicker branded Biden 'delusional' and accused him of 'supporting the murder of innocent babies' during the commencement speech in Kansas.
Trump will return to the Oval Office next month and he praised Burch's role in his victory over Kamala Harris.
'Brian is a devout Catholic, a father of nine, and President of CatholicVote. He has received numerous awards, and demonstrated exceptional leadership, helping build one of the largest Catholic advocacy groups in the Country,' Trump said.
'He represented me well during the last Election, having garnered more Catholic votes than any Presidential Candidate in History! Brian loves his Church and the United States - He will make us all proud.'
