Counting Down my iTunes Play Count (VANITY) -- Day #45

Day #45 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the last couple of months. We are coming down the home stretch here, folks -- and it looks like this will be done by the second week of November!

And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making contributions for both the 3rd and 4th quarter fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)

Have fun with this, folks!

Oh, I love this song! So many visuals in my head. Truly a classic summer song.

Pinging to those from the previous threads. This is one of the defining songs of the 1980s, but has become a timeless classic over the years.

I posted the original video because it won many awards in its day, and is still remembered as one of the best music videos ever produced. Lots of storylines with the video and the song. The kid in the video is supposed to hearken back to a young Don Henley playing the drums. And the song itself was originally written for Tom Petty's Southern Accents album, but they left it off because it was out of character with the rest of the tracks on that one.

This song also has one of the most memorable (and compelling) lines in any modern hit. I've had it as my FR tagline in the past:

"Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac."

Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the ping list!

"Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac."

Probably one of the most ironic and iconic lines of a song from the 80's.
