Hong Kong Chu Hai College alleges that Ray Yip disguised illicit transactions as academic and administrative expenses

The High Court on Friday also ordered the four defendants to disclose to Hong Kong Chu Hai College all of their assets worth HK$50,000 or more within 21 days, to help the plaintiff assess which items could be linked to the case.
Finance director Ray Yip Kam-chun appeared in court for the first time since being sued by the Tuen Mun-based institution for embezzlement by allegedly disguising illicit transactions as the college’s academic and administrative expenses.
Yip’s wife, Ng Ka-man, who was named as a defendant after the lawsuit was filed on Monday, also turned up at the hearing.
The college claimed that more than HK$17.3 million had been transferred to Yip’s personal bank account under various pretexts since 2023, including for a “long service payment” – despite the fact that he remained in employment at all material times.
Rivers Design Engineering, a former contractor of the college, and its director, Ho Chung-ling, allegedly received more than HK$7.7 million as part of the scheme. The two defendants were absent from the hearing.
The college argued that the amount the firm received exceeded the earnings it was entitled to for conducting certain works at its campus.
