Rampant Reds to add to Palace’s problems

Arne Slot has made a brilliant start to the testing task of replacing Jurgen Klopp as boss at Liverpool, winning eight of his first nine games.

A 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest is the sole blip on that record, but 3-0 victories over Manchester United and Bournemouth as well as a 5-1 rout of West Ham United show just how dangerous the Reds have been under the Dutchman.

In contrast, Crystal Palace have endured a miserable start to the season. Despite a strong end to the previous campaign and plenty of optimism, the Eagles have taken just three points from the first 18 available and could be blown away by their visitors on Saturday.

The Reds have won 11 of the past 14 meetings between the pair and have netted 12 goals over their previous four trips to Selhurst Park, suggesting they may waste no time in getting to work in south-east London.

Slot’s men have led at half-time in six of their nine games this term and should have far too much for their hosts from start to finish on Saturday.

Super Salah set to light up Selhurst

Rumours about a potential exit from Anfield for Mohamed Salah were quite swiftly quashed by all relevant parties over the summer and Liverpool have already been proved right in their decision to stick by their all-time Premier League top scorer.

The Egypt superstar winger has netted six and provided five assists in nine games this term. Palace will be fearing the worst, given that he has scored in his past three games and that he has a sensational record against the Eagles.

Salah has scored eight times in his 12 previous appearances against Palace during his time with Liverpool, and he is worth backing to net whenever he is odds-against, as those prices do not come around often.

Hughes heading for the book again

The deadly front three of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Salah have received most of the plaudits for Liverpool’s strong start to the campaign – but while that praise is deserved, the merits of an exceptional midfield have gone somewhat under the radar.

A well-balanced trio of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai has proved hard for teams to deal with and their ability has brought plenty of yellow cards for opponents in the centre of the park.

At least one central midfielder has been booked in Liverpool’s past five Premier League games, suggesting Palace’s engine room could be the next to suffer against the Reds.

Daichi Kamada has been used alongside Adam Wharton in recent weeks, but Selhurst boss Oliver Glasner could turn to the more defensively astute Will Hughes for this fixture.

Despite playing just 122 minutes across all games, he has been booked twice in his past four Premier League matches and is a prime candidate for a booking this weekend.
