🗣️ Sen. Moreno demands ex-son-in-law resign from Congress. Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno (R) called for Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), his ex-son-in-law, to step down. Miller allegedly threw scalding water on his ex-wife Emily during their 2024 divorce, with investigators alleging he physically abused their small daughter, as well. Miller has denied the allegations.
✅ Todd Blanche inches closer to Senate confirmation. Acting AG Todd Blanche formally terminated a $1.776 billion fund for alleged government weaponization victims, clearing the path for his Attorney General nomination. GOP Senators John Cornyn (TX) and Thom Tillis (NC) threatened to block his nomination unless he killed the fund in writing.
🏛️ Trump slashes Smithsonian budget amid woke overhaul. The White House proposed the Smithsonian's smallest budget request in years, dropping below $1 billion for the first time since fiscal year 2020. The move follows a 162-page White House report recommending sweeping reforms to the institution's exhibits and programming.
💻 Commerce Dept. takes equity stakes in chip companies. The Department of Commerce quietly announced it will provide $874 million in CHIPS Act funding to seven semiconductor companies in exchange for minority equity stakes. The move follows last year's controversial decision to take a 10 percent stake in Intel.
