David Lynch Dead at 78 ... 'Blue Velvet,' 'Twin Peaks' Director
David Lynch -- the legendary of "Twin Peaks" has died ... according to his family who posted to Facebook.
The post reads, "It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time. There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, “Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.”
He announced back just last year that he was diagnosed with emphysema after years of smoking and likely wouldn't be able to direct anymore or even leave his house.
Lynch started directing in the late 1960s -- gaining national recognition in 1977 when he helmed the surrealist horror film "Eraserhead."
His career accelerated in the 1980s ... when Lynch released "The Elephant Man" and "Dune."
Lynch was 78.
