Deserted casino outpost nicknamed 'Mini Las Vegas' to reopen in last ditch effort to lure customers in

Developers think they've hit the jackpot with one Nevada outpost.

Primm Valley Resort & Casino, the last operating casino in the tiny California border town of Primm, officially will reopen just 17 days after Las Vegas-based operator Terrible's assumed control.

Terrible's, a historic Las Vegas company owned by the Herbst family, has a long history of owning and operating casinos, making this partnership a step toward restoring Primm's status as a destination for travelers.

The turnaround comes after former operator Affinity Interactive shuttered the casino over Fourth of July weekend, fueling fears that the once-busy gambling outpost dubbed a 'Mini Las Vegas' is past its prime.

Instead, the casino's new owners moved quickly to get the doors back open in what many see as a final attempt to breathe life into the fading destination.

Located at the Nevada-California state border, Primm was once a must-stop destination for Southern Californians heading to Las Vegas, drawing millions of motorists with its casinos, roller coaster, outlet mall and cheap gambling.

On its website, Primm Valley boasts sports betting with high-definition televisions, comfortable seating and 'an exciting atmosphere.' There was also one of the world's busiest lottery ticket stores with both self-service machines and counter registers.

There was even the 'Bonnie & Clyde exhibition,' where guests could 'see the authentic bullet-riddled Ford V-8 that the infamous duo Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were in when police gunned them down in Louisiana in 1934.'

The Nevada area was also home to casinos like Buffalo Bill's and Whiskey Pete's - both of which have closed their doors

But by early July, nearby casinos Buffalo Bill's and Whiskey Pete's had already closed, leaving Primm Valley Resort as the community's final gambling destination.

Still, Terrible's is hoping fresh investment, upgraded facilities and new promotions will persuade motorists to once again pull off the interstate rather than drive straight to the Las Vegas Strip.

The company completed its takeover of the Primm properties on July 5 after reaching an agreement with Affinity Interactive and members of the Primm family, who developed the state-line destination decades ago.

The casino is scheduled to reopen at noon on July 22 with 422 gaming machines, 250 hotel rooms, a William Hill sportsbook, a sports bar and a 24-hour quick-service restaurant.

The company says added perks, like a coffee bar, a 24-hour cafe and a steakhouse, will open in the coming months as renovations continue.

The rapid reopening also helped preserve hundreds of jobs that appeared destined to disappear when the casino abruptly shut its doors earlier this month.

'I know they have apartments behind Primm for employees,' one Reddit user said of the closure. 'I also know many of the people who live in them don't have cars. So I curious what's going to happen with them.'

For some fans, the thought of the casino closing meant the end of memories made at Primm's.

Primm Resorts in Nevada has seen a decline in activity in recent years, with other casinos in the area shuttering completely

Primm Valley Resorts also has hotel rooms available to visitors, in addition to a swimming pool and other amenities

'Makes me sad,' one Reddit user wrote. 'Glad I got to experience Primm when it was thriving with casinos, two good golf courses and an outlet mall.'

'Primm was always the last stop my parents and I would take on the drive home and I have a lot of fond memories there with them,' one former customer added.

Another Reddit user said they stopped by the casino before it shuttered, dubbing the resort 'dead.'

'Had whole areas lit and roped off,' they added. 'Real eerie vibes.'
