Destiny 2 Episode Heresy Act 3 Release Date & all new content

Destiny 2 Episode Heresy Act 3 is almost here and it’s packed with new content, including the hotly-anticipated Rite of the Nine activity.

As was the case with Echoes and Revenant before it, Act 3 represents the final chapter of Heresy, bringing closure to Oryx, Savathun and Xivu Arath’s story and perhaps offering some sort of teaser for the upcoming Frontiers.

Bungie remains more or less radio silent on that front but if Heresy is intended to be some sort of lead-in for Destiny 2’s next big saga, an epilogue teasing where Guardians are going next isn’t off the table.

Outside of the above, all the usual balance changes and seasonal content are on the cards, including a reprised Strike from the original Destiny, a brand-new PvP mode, and more Catalysts to hunt down for Barrow-Dyad. Here’s everything you need to know.

Episode Heresy Act 3 release date

Heresy Act 3 goes live on April 1, 2025, with Destiny 2’s weekly reset. This represents the final major update for Destiny 2 before Frontiers launches in summer 2025, which currently has no release date.

For a convenient reference, here’s when Destiny 2’s weekly reset takes place in a variety of time zones:

• Pacific Time (PT): 09:00 – Tuesday
• Eastern Time (ET): 12:00 – Tuesday
• Greenwich Mean Time (GMT): 17:00 – Tuesday
• Central European Time (CET): 18:00 – Tuesday
• Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST): 03:00 – Wednesday

Sunless Cell Strike

Included with the original Destiny’s Taken King expansion, The Sunless Cell receives a facelift for Heresy Act 3. How exactly this version of the Vanguard activity will differ from its original incarnation isn’t clear, but Bungie did promise that it won’t be exactly as you remember.

At the very least, we know it’ll feature an updated narrative to reflect Destiny 2’s story progression and a new final boss to replace Aluk-Hul, the Darkblade, a former lieutenant of Oryx.

Rite of the Nine

Rite of the Nine is a brand-new, limited-time event coming in Heresy Act 3 that tasks Guardians with completing refreshed – and tougher, if you choose the hardest difficulty – versions of existing Dungeons.

Standalone versions of Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep will rotate in availability throughout the event, with any Guardian taking on their challenges rewarded with a ton of iconic weapons, all refreshed with new visuals and perk pools.

Heavy Metal

Rather than throw another hyper-competitive PvP mode into the mix to sit alongside Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner, Bungie’s having some fun with its next big addition to the Crucible.

As the name implies, Heavy Metal is all about vehicular warfare, pitting two teams of Guardians against each other as the pilots of Fallen Brigs (pictured below) or Drake tanks. Expect some awfully fun arcade action for this one.

Heavy Metal is a new vehicle-based PvP mode that pits Brigs against Drakes.

Barrow-Dyad Catalysts

The final two Catalysts to round out Barrow-Dyad‘s four total will be obtainable in Heresy Act 3. Once their respective quests have been completed, Guardians will be able to outfit the Exotic Strand SMG with two new perks, One For All and Target Lock.

How exactly these will be unlocked isn’t known, but you can no doubt expect to put in a similar amount of legwork as required for Act 2’s Catalysts.

Dexerto

The remaining two Catalysts for Barrow-Dyad will be obtainable in Act 3.

Artifact mods

The final row of Heresy’s Artifact Mods will be unlocked for use in Act 3. What these are isn’t known just yet but so far, Trace Rifles, Strand, and Arc have been the big winners this season.

As Bungie might want to avoid making any of those too powerful in the current meta, there’s a good chance it’ll opt to set its sights on bringing the power level of underperforming subclasses or weapon types up to better compete.
