Developer creates ‘Indie Scrolls’ RPG while waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6

The seemingly endless wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 has inspired one fan to fill their time waiting for Skyrim‘s sequel by creating his own RPG inspired by Bethesda’s iconic series.

The solo project, dubbed The Indie Scrolls, has been documented on X by its developer, an animator and character designer. Since March 2026, when the project started, the solo dev has been sharing daily updates on their feed, mostly in the form of work-in-progress clips.

Explaining that the lengthy wait for Bethesda’s next Elder Scrolls game motivated them to start building their own game inspired by the fantasy RPG series, the developer said:

“Since TES 6 is [taking] forever to come out, I’ve been working on a project inspired by TES but in a Daggerfall visual key, and this is my first gameplay showcase.”

“The idea is to make a modern and updated RPG gameplay but with classic graphics… what do you think?” they wrote, alongside sharing an early gameplay clip back in May.

Since then, the developer has shared daily updates showing the game’s progress, including footage of character sprite animations, movement systems, combat, and other gameplay features as development continues.

The unanswered question, of course, is whether The Indie Scrolls will reach completion before TES6 actually rolls around. Judging by the most recent tweets, there’s still a way to go before the former is ready to welcome players.

With that said, we still have no idea when Bethesda’s next entry series will actually arrive. The sequel was first announced eight years ago. Last we heard, director Todd Howard confirmed back in March, that Skyrim’s successor had the studio’s full attention.
