The long-lost secret diaries of Unity Mitford, which offer unprecedented insights into her extraordinary relationship with Adolf Hitler in the years leading up to World War Two, have been revealed.

The leather-bound journal, unseen for eight decades, documents 139 meetings between Hitler and Mitford from 1935 to 1939, revealing intimate details of their connection that have remained hidden from historians until now.

Celebrated historian Lord Andrew Roberts called the discovery "extremely rare in modern times."

The diaries chronicle how the aristocratic Mitford, one of the famous Mitford sisters, became closer to Hitler than any other Briton, offering fresh perspectives on the Nazi leader who reportedly "behaved as a 17-year-old" around the statuesque blonde beauty.

The newly discovered diary contains Unity's flowing handwriting, in which she unfailingly referred to Hitler as 'the Führer' or reverentially as 'He' and 'Him'.

Unity Mitford's infatuation with Hitler led her to move to Munich at age 20, where she deliberately stalked the Nazi leader.

Her persistence paid off when Hitler first summoned her to his restaurant table on February 9, 1935, which she recorded as "the most wonderful day of my life."

The young aristocrat successfully integrated herself into Hitler's inner circle, causing friction with Eva Braun, Hitler's lover, who became jealous of their relationship.

Born in London but conceived in the Canadian town of Swastika, Unity transformed from an obsessed follower into Hitler's trusted confidante.

Her position granted her a unique vantage point within the Nazi regime during the crucial months before the war, while her fellow Britons prepared for conflict.

The newly discovered diary reveals that Unity Mitford was "almost certainly sexually active" while associating with leading Nazis in Germany.

This revelation raises questions about whether she had a sexual relationship with Hitler himself, who was 25 years her senior.

The journal details their growing passion as Unity became increasingly embedded in the Nazi inner circle during the pre-war period.

Her diaries are filled with intimate and horrifying revelations about Hitler and their relationship, which spanned five years leading up to World War Two.

Unity's tragic end came on September 3, 1939, the day Britain declared war on Germany. Distraught at the conflict between her homeland and Nazi Germany, she attempted suicide in Munich's English Garden park.

Though she survived the self-inflicted gunshot to the head, she was left brain-damaged, with the bullet permanently lodged in her skull. She later died in Britain in 1948, aged 33.
