Two opportunities in Virginia In just a few months, we’ll face our first challenges of 2025 – two special elections for seats in the Virginia Senate.
State Chamber District Virginia Senate SD-10 Virginia Senate SD-32
Democrats hold the Virginia Senate by an ultra-thin margin. Holding our ground in these special elections is crucial to defending control of the chamber against a Republican power grab.

I was put on several democrat email lists during this election cycle. I let them keep coming for their amusement purposes. The above email dropped into my inbox this morning. I am only including the relevant parts.
Notice the email gives you no clue as to why these races are worth contributing to. Hint neither one is competitive. Both incumbents were elected to the US House in 2024.
Virginia Senate SD-10
[Ballotpedia 2023:] John McGuire (Republican Party) is a member of the Virginia State Senate, representing District 10. He assumed office on January 10, 2024. His current term ends on January 12, 2028.
[McGuire was unopposed in his 2023 State Senate run after his Democrat opponent failed to qualify for the ballot due to paperwork issues]
[2024:] McGuire (Republican Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Virginia's 5th Congressional District. He won in the general election on November 5, 2024.
As noted above, John McGuire won an unopposed race as his dem opponent failed to file the correct paper work to run. The district appears to be R+10 or more. It is hard to compare to 2019 due to redistricting and stupid Ballotpedia of not comparing apples to apples.
Virginia Senate SD-32
Suhas Subramanyam (Democratic Party) is a member-elect of the U.S. House, representing Virginia's 10th Congressional District. He assumes office on January 3, 2025. District 32 is based in Loudoun County in the suburbs of Washington D.C.
