A Dodgers fan has appeared to blow his fingers off holding a firework during overnight celebrations in Los Angeles for the team's World Series triumph.

A shocking video has emerged online and gone viral, showing the fan running into the road to pick up a firework from the ground but as he grabs it, it explodes.

After emerging from a plume of smoke, the man staggers back to the sidewalk, appearing to be dazed, while blood pours from his left hand.

Bystanders can be heard yelling in shock, with one screaming: 'Oh f*** his hand blew! Call 911!'

According to TMZ, first responders in Los Angeles found the man, who is 25 years old, and he eventually had hospital treatment for 'debilitating but not life-threatening' injuries.

A horrific video of the shocking accident has gone viral across social media

While the injuries are shocking, the explosion is so loud that the man was perhaps lucky not to be even more badly hurt.

The incident occurred as thousands of fans across Los Angeles poured into the streets to celebrate their team's World Series win over New York Yankees.

Some of those celebrations turned ugly, however, with gangs looting a Nike store in downtown LA and stealing goods.

A bus was also burned down and the LAPD has said that arrests were made as officers were pelted with fireworks and other objects.

There is no indication in the video of the fan's firework accident that he was targeting police.

The Dodgers have since landed back in Los Angeles and are holding a parade on Friday to celebrate their eighth World Series title.
