DOJ Charges 16 Noncitizens For Voter Fraud, Illegally Voting

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced charges against 16 noncitizens Monday in connection with voter fraud and election crimes.

The aliens were charged with a range of election-related crimes, including false statements on citizenship applications, false claims of citizenship for voter registration, and voting in a federal election. Notably, all of the foreign nationals named by the DOJ are lawful permanent residents.

In Minnesota alone, ten aliens were charged with voter fraud. The noncitizens charged include Liberian nationals Bhator Konah Bryant, Alan Barbu Kargbo, and Chris Adam Pettiquoi, Lithuanian national Edvile Vaidoto Edmunds, Ghanaian national Joshua Frederick Kofi Edzie, German national Paul Kras, Bosnian national Fadil Rasim Ozegovic, Brazilian national Aparecido Donizetti Padovan, Canadian national Christian Liam Schenk, and South African national Hester Sophia Weihmann.

One Italian national, Andrea Catanese, allegedly voted in the 2024 general election, falsely claimed she had never voted in a federal election when she applied for naturalization, and then repeated the statement to the immigration authority reviewing her application. In another instance, Bahamian national Terrance Patrick Evans allegedly voted in the 2024 federal election despite being a noncitizen.

Three other aliens were indicted in Louisiana for illegally voting in a federal election, including Cuban national Pedro Pablo Ruiz, Mexican national Zianya Yllaly Zamorano, and Nicaraguan national Dudley Francisco Zeledon. All three noncitizens allegedly voted in the 2024 general election.

In Wisconsin, a North Macedonian national, Sara Luma, was charged with unlawfully voting as a noncitizen after she allegedly voted in the 2024 general election. She also allegedly falsely claimed she was a citizen on her voter registration. She later admitted to federal law enforcement that she had registered to vote.
