The political landscape erupted Thursday evening as President Donald Trump announced Pam Bondi, former Attorney General of Florida and a staunch Trump ally, as his nominee for the next Attorney General of the United States.
Bondi’s nomination follows Rep. Matt Gaetz’s withdrawal, a decision that shocked many in the conservative base.
In his official statement, President Trump lauded Bondi’s impressive record as a prosecutor and her leadership as Florida’s first female Attorney General:
“I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families.
Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country. She did such an incredible job, that I asked her to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first Term — We saved many lives!
For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans – Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!”
Former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who had initially been chosen for the AG role, publicly endorsed Bondi’s nomination, calling her a “stellar selection.”
In a statement, Gaetz said, “Pam Bondi is a stellar selection by President Trump for Attorney General. Pam and I worked closely together when she was Florida’s Attorney General and I chaired Criminal Justice in the state house. She’s a proven litigator, an inspiring leader and a champion for all Americans. She will bring the needed reforms to DOJ.”

Despite Bondi’s proven loyalty to Trump, a resurfaced video from the 2016 GOP primaries has ignited controversy among the conservative base. The video shows Bondi endorsing Jeb Bush over Trump during the contentious Republican primary—a choice that many MAGA supporters view as a betrayal.
Social media exploded with backlash, with some questioning whether Bondi’s past allegiance to Bush makes her fit for the role of Attorney General in a Trump-led administration.
Donald Trump Jr. immediately came to Bondi’s defense, reminding critics of her steadfast loyalty to President Trump since his rise to power.
“In all fairness, I think my family and I may have been some of the only people who supported Donald Trump in the 2016 GOP primary. Once he broke through the lies and stereotypes and proved to be a populist leader, that all changed. Pam Bondi was one of his earliest supporters!”

Bondi has been an unwavering Trump supporter for years. During Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2020, Bondi dismantled the Democrats’ case by exposing the Biden-Burisma scandal.
Her track record of fighting for Trump’s vision and values, coupled with her experience as Florida’s Attorney General, positions her as a formidable candidate to lead the Department of Justice into a new era. Elon: The Cheapest Way To Heat Your House This Winter

Has Bodi truly seen the light?
Only time will tell.

Kamala imprisoned black marijuana tokers and Bondi went after George Zimmerman. I see no difference.
The real question: What will Rand have to say at the hearings?

She’s another Deep Stater who will protect the Deep Stater.
This is failure.

After his horrible Surgeon General pick yesterday, Bondi is the least of my concerns.

I have to say I don't care what someone said about Trump before the 2016 election. So I don't really care in her case either.
I do have concerns however:
- Her involvement in the Trayvon Martin case. I have reservations on this with questions such as: Was she driving it, or being pushed from above? I am still in the process of looking at this, and there are plenty of articles posted on Free Republic talking about this now, though I have not had time to look at them in depth.
- Endorsements for her from the likes of Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney. Again, if these people endorse her, I am inclined to view the nomination with a critical eye.

JEB was a long time ago. Other comments I have read, not on FR, but from people in Florida, say that she is solid, not woke, and is a great choice.
People pearl clutch on FR so much!

Isn’t the Surgeon General more of a figurehead pick? What does the SG even do? Won’t RFK have more influence than that woman?

While Bondi was Florida AG during Zimmerman case, Governor Rick Scott appointed a special prosecutor Florida State Attorney Angela Corey to prosecute Zimmerman. Not sure you can hold that against Bondi.

Talk about inventing Drama.
If she’s disloyal he’ll fire her
For crying out loud. About 3/4 of FreeRepublic would need banned if we went back and kicked off everyone who didn’t endorse Trump at some point during the 2016 primaries
