Donald Trump has announced the creation of a brand new "AI Force" as he vowed to fight back against what he branded a Democrat-led "hoax" targeting the booming technology.
The US President revealed plans for the new body in a lengthy post on Truth Social on Saturday, declaring that his administration would protect the growth of artificial intelligence.
Mr Trump compared the new organisation to the Space Force established during his first term in the White House.
He also revealed that an "AI Czar" would be appointed to oversee the administration's approach to the rapidly developing technology.
Mr Trump joked that "only High IQ individuals need apply" for the position.
However, the President provided no details about how the AI Force would operate, what powers it would possess or when it would be established.
The announcement came as Mr Trump launched a scathing attack on critics seeking tougher safeguards around artificial intelligence.
He accused "Radical Left Democrats" of attempting to undermine the industry after previously targeting the data centres required to power AI systems.

Mr Trump said his administration "will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry".
He added: "Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!"
The President said existing criminal and civil laws could instead be used to tackle wrongdoing involving the technology.
He also floated a dramatic rebrand of artificial intelligence, suggesting it could instead be called "Superior Intelligence", "Extreme Intelligence" or "Supreme Intelligence".

He suggested the technology could eventually account for as much as 25 per cent of America's GDP.
The President also placed the technology firmly at the centre of Washington's growing rivalry with Beijing, declaring that America was leading China and the rest of the world.
"I intend to keep it that way!" he said.
His intervention comes amid an increasingly fierce debate over whether the extraordinary pace of AI development requires tougher safeguards.

Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei has called for the development of advanced AI to slow down and proposed greater independent scrutiny of new models.
OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and Elon Musk have also backed calls to slow the development of increasingly powerful artificial intelligence.
The debate has spilled across the Atlantic, with MPs warning that existing legislation may not be sufficient to deal with the potential impact of the technology.
