CV NEWS FEED // In a Jan. 15 call to action, Dr. Alveda King, the niece of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., urged Americans to pursue unity and hope this year.
King, a Christian evangelist and pro-life activist who “uses her God-given talents and abilities to glorify God and uphold the sanctity of life from the womb to the tomb,” noted in a press release from Alveda King Ministries that January marked not only the New Year but several other milestone events, including the March for Life, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the presidential inauguration, and the funeral of President Jimmy Carter.
“When peripherals collide, convergence is imminent,” King said. “The convergency of these events cannot be just a coincidence, and January’s March for Life, in particular, gives us a chance to reflect on the progress we have made in the movement.”
She urged Americans to pray at the beginning of the New Year.
“Through our prayers, our hope, and our continued hard work, we can finally rejoice that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
King’s ministry outreach KOINONIA will package 25,000 meals for Haiti in honor of what would have been her uncle’s 96th birthday, Jan. 15, and MLK Day, on Jan. 20.
King is a mother of six and a former Georgia state legislator. She currently serves as the Priests for Life’s senior adviser and board member and as chair of the America First Policy Institute’s Center for the American Dream.
