A mysterious black ring spotted hovering in the skies above Seattle over the weekend sparked drama throughout the city.
The ominous black circle, which sat in between the clouds, quickly caused widespread speculation and confusion as people took to social media to share clips and images of the odd occurrence.
Some suggested the ring was a rare weather event, a massive swarm of insects, or even an extraterrestrial spotting.
Meanwhile, others speculated that it appeared after fireworks were set off at Lumen Field in Washington state for the Supercross dirt bike racing championship event.
'Definitely aliens,' one online user commented. 'Leftover tornado,' said another.
While many were convinced it could have been weather related, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service told FOX13 the ring was not the result of a weather incident.
Video posted on Reddit showed fans piled into the stadium as a pyrotechnics machine went off, creating a large fireball that eventually turned into a plume of smoke.
The smoke then made its way up and created what appeared to be a dark ring, similar to photos circulating online.

Lumen Field posted a similar clip on their Instagram page showing the same smoke rising into the sky.
'Let the smoke rise. It's go time,' the stadium captioned its post.
Although officials with Lumen Field could not positively confirm the phenomenon was caused by pyrotechnics at the event, a spokesperson told the outlet they suspect it was linked to the fireworks.
Commenters also appeared to confirm the dark circle came from the dirt bike event.
'Pyrotechnics from lumen field,' someone said. 'It’s literally a smoke ring from the races.'
Another commented: 'That was from supercross. SMH they had a flame cannon that makes this.'
Despite many thinking it was from the field, others suggested it was much more than that.

Someone else quipped: 'The aliens are making smoke rings.'
A similar black ring appeared in the skies over Virginia in August 2024 and hovered for about 10 minutes before vanishing.
Williamsburg locals flooded news stations when they spotted the circle over a major highway.
Ron Stepp said that he was working near Eastern State Hospital when it appeared above like a huge smoke ring in the sky.
Others reported the sighting from nearby neighborhoods, suggesting it was visible for miles.

Similar black rings have been spotted in other locations, with fires and explosions being cited as the likely cause. But officials reported no fires at the time of the sighting.
Yet another similar looking ring-shaped cloud was spotted over Venezuela in June.
A month later, another was captured drifting across an orange and pink sunset over Pearland, Texas.
There have been numerous other sightings all across the world as well - it seems that these mysterious objects can pop up pretty much anywhere.
So far, no one has officially confirmed what these objects are or where they came from, but there are some theories.
