Drivers are being warned of long delays on the A1 after a devastating collision and lorry fire, with delays potentially being seen until this evening.
The A1 in Cambridgeshire remains closed northbound between J17 of the A1(M) (near Peterborough A1139) and the A47 (near Wansford).
Two heavy goods vehicles were involved in a "serious collision" at around 3am and subsequently caught fire.
National Highways confirmed that the closure remains in place to "facilitate vehicle recovery" and collision investigation.
The northbound carriageway remains closed, although the southbound carriageway has since been reopened.
Lane two (of two) remains closed to allow emergency services to work safely at the scene and carry out investigations.
All traffic caught within the closure has now been released, although motorists are facing lengthy delays.
Once recovery of the vehicles and the collision investigation has been completed, the scene will be assessed for any carriageway damage.
The stretch of the A1 is not expected to reopen until later this evening

The lorry fire has caused "substantial road surface damage", according to National Highways, which will require the carriageway to be resurfaced.
Plans are being developed to mobilise a resurfacing crew to attend once recovery and the investigation are complete.
The transport organisation stated that the initial scene clearance and recovery operation was "complex" and would be protracted.
Motorists are being urged to seek alternative routes as the northbound carriageway is not expected to reopen until "later this evening".

The Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade confirmed its attendance on the A1, posting images of its firefighters battling the blaze.
Posting on Facebook, it stated: "A significant incident is currently ongoing on the A1 northbound, with multiple fire service crews, ambulance personnel, and police in attendance.
"The A1 northbound is fully closed between Chesterton and Wansford. Motorists are advised to avoid the area, seek alternative routes, and expect significant delays while emergency services respond."
National Highways is also urging motorists to avoid the area to bypass any delays, while also setting out a signposted diversion route.

Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs
- Exit the A1 (M) on the free-flow lane prior to Junction17 Haddon and join the A1139 eastbound on Fletton Parkway
- At junction 3, exit the A1139 onto the A1260 Nene Parkway
- Continue north on the A1260 until the A47 Longthorpe Interchange, and turn left (west) onto the A47 Soke Parkway and continue west
- Travel straight over the A47 at Sutton roundabout and continue west until Wansford Junction
- At Wansford Junction, continue straight over the first roundabout and the A1 overbridge
- At the second roundabout, turn right onto the A1 northbound entry slip road and rejoin the A1
