It's the go-to language app for millions of people around the world.

But it appears that Duolingo has crashed this afternoon.

According to Down Detector, the problems started at around 14:00 GMT, and are affecting users worldwide.

So far, more than 430 issues have been logged in the US, while more than 100 UK users said they are experiencing problems.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported problems in the US, 87 per cent said the problem was with the app.

Eight per cent, meanwhile, said they were struggling with the website, while five per cent said the problem was with courses.

MailOnline tried to access Duolingo, and found that it wouldn't load on iPhone or desktop.

Duolingo is yet to comment on the outage, although MailOnline has contacted them for comment.

Duolingo is a popular app designed to help people learn languages.

'Learn a new language with the world’s most-downloaded education app!' its description reads on the Google Play Store.

'Duolingo is the fun, free app for learning 40+ languages through quick, bite-sized lessons.

'Practice speaking, reading, listening, and writing to build your vocabulary and grammar skills.'

As of the fourth quarter of 2024, Duolingo had approximately 116.7 million monthly active users.

This includes Prince William, who revealed last year that he is learning Welsh on the app.

Unfortunately, both the app and desktop version of Duolingo appear to be down this afternoon.

'Quick maintenance break! Duolingo will be back soon,' the Duolingo website currently reads.

Amid the outage, many users have flocked to X (formerly Twitter), with many raising concerns about their 'streaks' - a measure of how consistently they use the app

One user tweeted: 'DUOLINGO IS DOWN. Listen here bird, this better not ruin my streak!'

One wrote: 'Good morning Duolingo is down n I'll tell you one thing! That 276 streak better still be there'
