A heartwarming interaction between Duolingo and the parent of a boy who lost his language-learning streak while in the hospital was short-lived after the company was inundated with ridiculous requests from other users demanding the same.
A parent reached out to the popular language-learning app through X on Tuesday after their ten-year-old son lost his streak of more than 300 days.
A streak is built on Duolingo by returning to the app daily to complete lessons, which consist of game-style learning activities such as matching exercises, translation drills and many others.
'He’s home and recovering, but heartbroken about losing his streak. Any chance some Duo magic can restore it?' asked an X user named Sunny Chaos in a post that received 147,000 likes.
Duolingo quickly answered with a sweet response, noting that they were glad the boy was recovering and would revive his nearly yearlong run.
'301-day streak repaired! Threw in some gems and a Streak Shield too,' wrote Duolingo's X account, referencing other perks available on the app.
However, the kind gesture opened the door to dozens of requests citing all kinds of excuses to recover lost streaks.
'Hi Mr Duolingo. I was hungover last Sunday and lost my four-day streak. Please help,' one person wrote.

Duolingo obliged and reinstated the boy's streak, which is created by returning to the app to complete lessons daily
To which Duolingo simply replied, 'get off my page.'
Another request similar to Chaos's came from a woman named Destiny, who asked Duolingo to help restore her sister's nearly three-year streak.
'My sister was just upset about going on a cruise and losing her multi-year streak,' she wrote.
'Could you please restore hers and make me the coolest sister in the world and we can start our friend streak again!?'
The company obliged, and her 1,032-day streak was restored.
Much of Duolingo's X content consists of humorous posts, memes and funny replies to users.
Other users took the opportunity to make ridiculous request as well following the kind gesture by Duolingo
However, the kind gesture opened the flood gates for other users to request streak reinstatements for a range of hilarious reasons

One request they denied came after a user complained that a lack of toilet paper caused them to miss their daily lesson.
'Mr Duolingo can you repair my 67-day streak? I was stuck on the toilet, and I ran out of toilet paper so I couldn't do my lesson,' asked the Duolingo user.
The company said it had the perfect solution and shared a picture of Duolingo-branded toilet paper.
Duolingo launched in 2012 and is widely recognized as the largest language-learning app in the world, offering more than 280 courses across 42 languages.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Duolingo and Sunny Chaos for comment.
