EA Sports FC successfully predicts World Cup winner for fifth time in a row

Forget accidental VTuber curses and wild predictions; EA Sports FC has officially managed to predict the World Cup winner for the fifth time in a row.

The World Cup is officially over after a rather lengthy final between Argentina and Spain, in which Spain came out on top, winning the competition for the second time in the country’s history after scoring during extra time.

Naturally, each knockout match has been incredibly intense, with each team battling to get to the final. Well, all that stress could be removed if we all listened to EA Sports FC’s predictions, as they’ve now managed to predict the winner five times in a row.

EA Sports FC team uses simulation to successfully predict World Cup winners

In what has to be one of the most impressive successful prediction streaks, EA Sports FC’s X page has taken to sharing who they think will win the World Cup over the last five competitions. Back in 2010, they predicted Spain, Germany in 2014, France in 2018, and Argentina in 2022. All of whom won the World Cup as expected.

Then, in June, two days before the competition started, the account shared “We’ve predicted four in a row. Now we’ve run the sim again. The next champion?” followed by the Spanish Flag. Just over a month later, the Spanish team is repping their gold medals (and brand new rings) and lifting the World Cup trophy into the air.

This is an incredibly fortunate streak for the game – but the admin behind the account doesn’t just take a guess. Instead, the devs simulate the World Cup, using current player stats, predicted matches, and, of course, who wins and loses each game. It seems their simulation is pretty accurate if they’ve managed to get such an impressive streak.

So, in four years time, maybe it’s best to head over to EA Sports FC’s X account and hope it says your chosen country; if they do, it seems you’re extremely likely to watch them lift that trophy.
