The Issue: Far-left US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed clinching Michigan’s Democratic nomination.
To my Democratic friends: It’s time to rid your party of the Democratic Socialists of America and its allies before it’s too late (“Final nail in coffin,” Issac Schorr, Aug. 6).
Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan shows the power of the DSA, even in a purple state.
This is not the party of Franklin Roosevelt and John Kennedy. It’s time for former President Barack Obama, Sen. Chuck Schumer and the rest of the Democratic establishment to grow a spine and show these radicals the door, before it’s too late.

One need only look at Russia to see what Marxism brings. Players like Abdul El-Sayed and Mayor Mamdani led by Coach Bernie Sanders and foul-mouthed cheerleader Hasan Piker have an agenda that includes the end of capitalism, and the elimination of Israel. If Main Street America doesn’t wake up by November, it may happen.

Democrats today won’t even stand up to the radicals in their party who are openly anti-police, antisemitic, anti-Constitution and anti-American sovereignty. They are committing political suicide.

The Democrats are seeing their Biden-era policies come home to roost. In opening the floodgates to illegal immigration, they created a voting population that votes radical left and has no sense of America’s history or the source of its greatness.

It is a great day for Michigan Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, because the Democrats have shot themselves in the foot.
With El-Sayed’s nomination, a Democratic Senate seat is likely to flip, making a Democratic takeover of the majority all but impossible. Michigan isn’t Massachusetts or California — it’s a swing state. General election voters include large numbers of independents. Many will vote for Rogers or stay home.

The Issue: Sophie Cunningham insisting it’s “common sense” to exclude trans athletes from women’s sports.
WNBA player Sophie Cunningham is being vilified by the rest of the league and even the fans for saying trans women shouldn’t compete in women’s sports (“Sophie’s choice to speak up,” Kirsten Fleming, Aug. 4).
I can’t believe this issue exists, but in these times, lefty lunatics will criticize anything that makes sense.

The WNBA seems to have mastered the fine art of shooting itself in the foot. A league that struggled for decades to attract mainstream attention suddenly found itself enjoying soaring TV ratings, higher salaries and unprecedented public interest. Instead of fully embracing the moment, too many players project petty jealousy. The league seems determined to cling to its underdog identity just as it finally has a chance to outgrow it.
Professional sports exist to entertain customers. If the WNBA wants to be treated as a major league, it needs to act like one. This latest foray into gender politics won’t help.
