Elder Scrolls 6 fans are frantically trying to figure out the name of the long-awaited game, after a tweet from Xbox boss Asha Sharma may have offered a clue.
On August 11, the Xbox CEO revealed she had seen a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls 6 that very morning. While she praised the “scale and grandeur,” as well as the story, it was something else that immediately caught fans’ eyes.
In the post, she referred to the Bethesda RPG as “The Elder Scrolls VI: ********.” Many took this as confirmation that the game’s subtitle will have eight letters and began desperately trying to decipher what it could be.
Although never confirmed officially, it’s been widely speculated that ES6 will take place in Hammerfell, based on the one teaser we have so far. Many assumed this would also be the name, but if Sharma’s tweet is to be taken as gospel, then it doesn’t quite fit.
Plenty of ideas have been suggested, but given the series’ tradition of naming its games after a location, fans think that “The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel” is the most likely option. Not only is Sentinel a kingdom within the region of Hammerfell, but it is also known as the ‘guardian’ of Starfall Bay, and ES6’s internal codename at Bethesda was rumored to be ‘Project Guardian.’
There have been some other possibilities posted online, such as “Starfall,” a bay in Hammerfell, or “High Rock,” a region that neighbours both Hammerfell and Skyrim.
If the game turns out to be set somewhere else, “Dominion” has also been speculated, as the Aldmeri Dominion was mentioned in Skyrim as a looming threat.
Of course, it’s also possible that Sharma’s tweet was just a simple way of redacting the name, and the number of stars doesn’t actually mean anything.
Still, fans are clinging to any little sliver of information they can get their hands on, since it’s been eight years since Elder Scrolls 6 was announced. Thankfully, Bethesda recently confirmed the project now has their full focus, and it’s set to be a return to the Skyrim-style RPG fans love.
