Far-left Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan wants to investigate and prosecute members of the President Donald Trump’s administration to deter young conservatives from working for him or even getting into politics.

Now being described by one critic as a “Bolshevik,” Slotkin uttered the threat during an interview with the Chicago Thinker, a campus newspaper at the University of Chicago.

The suggestion of frightening political opponents with targeted prosecutions invited a hurricane of reaction, including a beatdown by George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley.

What She Said

The 50-year-old Slotkin is a former CIA operative and one of the many CIA Democrats now in Congress. Most of them hate Trump and are Deep State subversives. As The New American reported in its print edition of January 13, 2025, Slotkin is a woke activist who rose from the House to the Senate in 2024.

For instance, she was concerned that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth would keep women out of combat, ABC News reported:

“I can tell you, because I was at the Pentagon on Thursday, and there is absolute, like, hallway, constant chatter and conversation and concern from senior women officers. But also I’ve heard from folks who I’ve recommended to service academies, young women who are just starting out their career, saying, ‘Am I going to actually be able to accomplish what I want to accomplish here?’” Slotkin said.

The purpose of the military is to fight wars, not help ladies “accomplish what I want to accomplish.” But forgetting that, Slotkin is a classic, obsessed, hate-Trump Democrat.

After she joined the “Seditious Six” that encouraged military officers to disobey what she considered illegal orders from Trump’s military leaders she confessed she didn’t know of any illegal orders. And she was nonplussed that encouraging members of the military to wantonly ignore orders might invite an investigation.

Elissa Slotkin ADMITS Democrats lied about President Trump issuing illegal orders to the military:

Thus, Slotkin’s apparent adoption of Soviet-style repression of speech is hardly surprising.

If the Democrats retake Congress as predicted, Slotkin wants show trials akin to those following the mostly peaceful protests at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him,” the leftist told the Chicago Thinker:

I want young people coming out of school to say, “Should I go work for the Trump administration? Like that sounds fun, I might get an opportunity.” I want them to be like, “Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.” I want that deterrence message sent.

Reaction From Turley, Others

As is his custom, Turley cast a bright beam on Slotkin’s remarks.

“‘That deterrence message’ is all too familiar to many Republicans,” Turley wrote:

After January 6th, the Biden Administration used the riot to unleash a scorched-earth campaign against Trump supporters and groups.

In an interview with CBS News, Justice Department official Michael Sherwin explained that they wanted to send a message with the harsh treatment of Trump supporters.

He explained that “our office wanted to ensure that there was shock and awe … it worked because we saw through media posts that people were afraid to come back to D.C. because they’re, like, ‘If we go there, we’re gonna get charged.’ … We wanted to take out those individuals that essentially were thumbing their noses at the public for what they did.”

Special counsel Jack Smith spied on more than 40 congressmen and senators by combing through phone records, Turley noted. And more recently, he observed, Smith tracked almost 650,000 Republicans. He gathered the “names of Trump campaign personnel, a catalogue of Trump campaign products and information on sales of red MAGA hats, including individual buyers, their purchases and their shipping addresses,” Senate Judiciary Committee chief Chuck Grassley disclosed last week.

The January 6 Committee did likewise, as The New York Times and podcaster Glenn Greenwald noted.

And former Obama factotum Susan Rice “promised in February that things would ‘not end well’ for Trump supporters,” Turley observed.

“Slotkin has been open about her desire to start a series of virtual show trials featuring Trump supporters to send a message to others,” he wrote in reviewing her recent past:

In a September 30 speech to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Slotkin compared the planned investigation to cleaning up Europe with what the Poles called “the Iron Broom”: “The goal here is to have a list of signature cases that go after some of the most obvious and harmful abuses of taxpayer dollars.”

To her audience’s delight, she dangled possible 20-year sentences for figures ranging from the former CIA officer named Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to even U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis said “Slotkin should be censured by the Senate and then charged with treason. She is a Bolshevik terrorist, and this type of behavior cannot be tolerated in a free society.”

GOP Senator Mike Lee of Utah called Slotkin’s deranged threat “absolutely disgraceful”

“Spare me the pearl-clutching — especially from Republican Members of Congress and online MAGA grifters who have cheered President Trump’s weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like, as recently as last week,” Slotkin fumed on X, angry that her threat went viral:

This is a subject I know something about: Less than a year ago, Trump directed the DOJ and FBI to investigate me, and then tried to criminally indict me for a 90 second video, exercising basic free speech. The same free speech you’re exercising now, lying about what I said in this clip.

Except that no one is lying. Slotkin was clear about the show trials and what they might accomplish:

I want young people coming out of school to say, “Should I go work for the Trump administration?” I want them to be like, “Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.” I want that deterrence message sent.
