Elon Musk's father has raised serious concerns about his son's ability to take on a role in Donald Trump's administration, citing the tech billionaire's already packed schedule.

Speaking to GB News, Errol Musk said: "There's no way he can go in with a briefcase and sit behind a desk or anything like that. Of course, the first thought I had was how on earth are you going to do this?"

The comments come as Elon Musk has been tasked with leading incoming President Donald Trump's new Department of Government Efficiency.

Musk explained: "This life is already compartmentalised into a few minutes every day for an item, and most of the time he's in the air doing business from the air, and he spends about one night at home so he doesn't even have a need to have a home anymore.

Musk's role comes amid a significant surge in his personal wealth, with Bloomberg reporting his fortune has increased by £70billion since Trump's election victory.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO's net worth has now reached a record-breaking £347.8billion, making him the wealthiest person in the world.

Tesla stock has risen 45 per cent since November 4, the day before the election, as investors respond positively to Trump's proposed EV policies.

His artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has also seen remarkable growth, with its value doubling to £50billion in recent months.

SpaceX is experiencing similar success, with a high-profile launch event attended by President-elect Trump this week.

The company is in discussions for a private share sale that could boost its valuation to more than £250billion.

Despite these business achievements, Musk has been expanding his influence into media ownership, having purchased X, formerly known as Twitter, for £44billion in 2022.

His latest venture could include acquiring MSNBC, following a social media exchange with Donald Trump Jr about potentially purchasing the network.

The discussion began after Comcast announced plans to spin-off several channels, including MSNBC and CNBC, into a separate company.

Experts have expressed concern about Musk's potential expansion into traditional media ownership.

Boston University social sciences professor Thomas Whalen told The Telegraph that Musk potentially buying MSNBC would be "a bombshell on the broadcasting landscape".

Whalen drew parallels to media control in Russia, stating: "I think how Vladimir Putin and oligarchs have been buying the free media in Russia."
