US President Donald Trump has "leaped to conclusions" and caused a "political circus" with his press conference in response to the Washington DC plane crash, an eyewitness has claimed.

Addressing the nation in a conference at the White House, the newly inaugurated President blamed "diversity, equity and inclusion policies" in aviation and claimed that the previous Democrat administrations "put politics first" over safety.

Trump told the press conference: "The Obama standards from very mediocre at best to extraordinary, you remember that only the highest aptitude, the highest intellect, and psychologically superior people were allowed to qualify for air traffic controllers.

"That was not so prior to me getting there. When I arrived in 2016, I made that change very early on because I always felt this was a job - that and other jobs too - but this was a job that had to be superior intelligence and we didn't really have that."

"However, to prematurely conjecture that incorrectly followed air traffic control procedures were a contributing factor here, 12 hours after this incident, without any commentary from the FAA or the NTSB is so much of a conjecture, so much of a leap, it's the verbal equivalent of eating Play-Doh."

Criticising Trump's "political theatre", Cappucci stated that it is "inappropriate" of the President to make comments based on "good sound bites" when an investigation needs to take place.

Cappucci fumed: "It's disappointing to see how much political theater is wrapped up in this this tragedy. This is the worst aircraft disaster in the United States since at least 2009 from a collision standpoint, and likely 67 people are dead.

"There's a process that needs to unfold, and so leaping to conclusions for the promotion of good soundbites or social media, as was likely what he was doing, is inappropriate and unconscionable."

When asked by GB News host Dawn Neesom how the people of Washington DC will be feeling about Trump's response to the incident, Cappucci claimed that they would be "disappointed" in his pointed attacks at previous administrations in light of such tragedy.

He said: "I think with episodes like this, events like this, the first thing that needs to happen is empathy and reassurance. The second thing that needs to happen is a thorough investigation to make sure this doesn't happen again.

"Skipping steps and jumping to conclusions not only undermines the validity of what's determined later on through actual investigations, but it's pernicious - it takes the victims and their families on this emotional roller coaster, and it's needlessly complicating a process."

Taking aim at the President, Cappucci concluded: "I think the people in this city will be largely disappointed. I'm not a political person, I didn't vote in the last election, I don't do politics.

"You have to approach things like this in a very scientific, objective way, without emotions, without feelings - and what was done in this press conference was embarrassing."

Washington DC's fire chief John Donnelly has confirmed it is now being treated as a recovery operation and it is not believed there are any survivors.

City Mayor Muriel Bowser also said that all Americans share a "profound sense of grief" over the "tragic events".
