Democrats elected longtime party operative Ken Martin to serve as the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee as it looks to rebuild from wipeout elections in 2024 which delivered unified control of government to the Republican party.

Martin was the race frontrunner and leveraged deep connections within the 400 voting members of the DNC to win on the first ballot Saturday afternoon.

He will replace outgoing chair Jamie Harrison.

“Democrats need to ask ourselves each day: which side are we on? I’m on the side of the American working family. Not the robber baron. Not the oil and gas executives. Not the union busters,” Martin said in a statement to X shortly before his election.

We have one team the Democratic Party, and we have one fight. The fight’s not in here, it’s out there. The fight right now is against Donald Trump and the billionaires who bought this country,” he added to the faithful in an address after his victory.

The 51-year-old previously served as chair of the state Democratic Party organization in Minnesota.
