Environmental Campaigner Oscar Livesy-Lodwick has spoken out about net zero in a heated interview on GB News.

This comes as Ed Miliband is facing a Cabinet backlash led by Rachel Reeves over his net zero plans.

He said: "So, Labour were completely pushing this through to the voter during the general election. That target to reduce energy bills by £300 obviously has not been met.

"As you just mentioned, we also have this ridiculous new target regarding net zero. The amount of money and time spent on Great British Energy seems a bit of a waste.

"It was promised to create new jobs for areas of the country outside of London and for more rural communities. We were also promised clean energy infrastructure.

"The reason why I'm defending him is because I do admire his knowledge and his body of work in this area. If anyone’s read his book Go Big: How to Fix Our World, it is actually remarkably good reading."

Patrick said: "It’s not good reading when you see your energy bills come through the door, though, is it?"

He responded: "No, but I think this comes down to the fact that we live in a political environment at the moment, Patrick, where promises are easy to make, and it’s very easy being in opposition for 14 years.

"I think they’re feeling the gravity of that. What I will say is that there are statistics which support this green movement, which I’m sure Miliband is holding on to.

"If we look at the average salary of someone working in the green sector, it’s £43,000, which is £5.5k more in your pocket than the average salary in the UK."
