Ethereum.org (ETH) Celebrates Success with 2024 Translatathon

The Ethereum Foundation has successfully concluded its 2024 Translatathon, achieving significant milestones in its mission to make Ethereum content accessible in multiple languages. This year's event saw 327 contributors translating a remarkable 2.53 million words across 70 languages, according to the Ethereum Foundation Blog.

Understanding the Translatathon

The Translatathon is an annual translation competition aimed at increasing the availability of non-English Ethereum content. Open to anyone bilingual, the event does not require technical expertise, enabling participants to learn about Ethereum while contributing to the platform and competing for prizes.

The event spans several phases, including two weeks of applications, nine days of translations, and two weeks of quality evaluations. The primary goals are to boost translations in underrepresented languages, expand multilingual content, onboard new contributors, and reward existing ones.

Impressive Growth

Compared to last year, the 2024 Translatathon saw a 50% increase in active translators from 217 to 327. The number of words translated also surged by 70%, from 1.47 million to 2.53 million, while the number of languages translated rose by 25%, from 56 to 70.

The foundation distributed $30,000 in prizes among 189 eligible participants. The top 10 translators received additional rewards, including Devcon tickets and discounts.

Top Contributors and Impact

The top contributors included MGETH, Jagadeesh, luniacllama, and several others. Their efforts have significantly enriched ethereum.org's content, adding 1.35 million freshly translated words and updating 3,173 pages across 55 languages. Six new languages, including Akan Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Shona, Tagalog, and Yoruba, were introduced.

ETHGlossary and Community Engagement

As part of the Translatathon, the Ethereum Foundation launched ETHGlossary, a tool designed to gamify the translation of Ethereum terminology across more than 60 languages. The initiative saw 84 contributors suggest 6,226 translations across 40 languages.

Community-organized Translation Hubs in 11 countries facilitated in-person gatherings, attracting over 100 participants to engage in translation activities and discussions about Ethereum.

Future Plans

While the 2024 Translatathon has concluded, Ethereum's translation program continues to thrive. The foundation encourages more bilingual individuals to join its efforts to broaden Ethereum's educational reach. Various contribution opportunities are available through the program's platform on Crowdin and community channels like Discord.

The Ethereum Foundation extends its gratitude to all participants, acknowledging their role in making Ethereum a truly global platform.
