Ethiopia has raised concerns over a recent arms shipment from Egypt to Somalia, warning the weapons could end up in the hands of terrorists and further destabilize the region. In a statement released on Tuesday, Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Taye Astke Selassie said that the supply of ammunition by external forces risks destabilizing the region’s fragile peace. His comments followed the unloading of heavy weaponry from an Egyptian warship in Mogadishu, marking the second arms delivery under a defense pact between Egypt and Somalia. Ethiopia, which has a running dispute with both countries, views the agreement with suspicion. It has threatened not to remain passive while external actors take actions that will destabilize the region.
