A man accused of throwing scalding hot liquid on four people in a New York City rampage has turned over a new leaf, his attorney has claimed.

Larry Martin walked into New York Supreme Criminal Court quietly on Wednesday before sitting down on an empty bench in a colorful plaid button-down shirt, awaiting the judge.

Martin's appearance was drastically different from his first court date, where he flashed wide smiles in a bright orange jumpsuit after he was indicted for a string of attacks that left four people with burns on March 6, 2024.

He was finally called up and sat down with his attorney, Rosemary Vassallo, who celebrated that the alleged attacker was compliant with his treatment plans in addition to cooperating with staff at a rehabilitation facility.

Martin appeared to have gained a noticeable amount of weight and was clean-shaven for his latest hearing as he faces four counts of first-degree attempted assault and four counts of second-degree assault.

Judge Juan Merchan also praised Martin's progress before ending the brief status appearance.

After leaving the courtroom, Martin and his attorney were met by the Daily Mail outside and appeared to quickly retreat back into the courtroom, where photography was prohibited.

Martin's attorney said he has been compliant with his treatment plans in addition to cooperating with staff at a rehabilitation facility

Vassallo then reappeared without her client and quickly walked off, declining to comment.

When Martin exited the courtroom once more, he also did not respond to any questions as another representative of his attempted to block photos of the suspect.

The alleged attacker appeared to stand nervously, staring at the doors of a closed elevator while waiting for it to arrive.

'Larry Martin allegedly committed violent attacks against four randomly selected individuals walking in Midtown within the span of less than two hours,' said District Attorney Bragg in a 2024 press release.

'My thoughts are with the victims as they heal from their extensive injuries. Nobody should fear for their safety while walking in Manhattan.'

Prosecutors claimed that on March 6, 2024, Martin, who was 42 at the time, threw hot water down the back of a man at East 44th Street and Lexington Avenue at about 7.10am, causing burns to his neck.

His looks have noticeably changed since his first court appearance where he flashed smiles and was noticeably slimmer on March 28, 2024

Martin faces four counts of first-degree attempted assault and four counts of second-degree assault

Then, at about 7.46am on West 56th Street and Sixth Avenue, he allegedly threw scalding water on the side of a second victim's face, causing burns and hearing loss.

Later, at approximately 8.15am on West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, he is accused of tossing hot liquid from a cup onto the right side of a third victim's face, burning them.

Shortly after, at about 8.39am on West 35th Street, Martin allegedly poured scalding hot liquid on a fourth victim's chest and hand, burning them.

NYPD shared video of him walking the streets during the attacks and arrested him the next day.

Police told The New York Post that his last known address was a homeless shelter in Brooklyn and that he had a prior arrest for allegedly assaulting a 70-year-old man in Queens in August 2021.
